Gov. Inuwa Yahaya Lauded for Championing Girl-Child Education

Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has been commended for his commitment to advancing girl-child education in the state.

A former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Aishatu Jibir Dukku, made the commendation during the opening ceremony of a five-day School-Based Management Committee (SBMC) Training of Master Trainers held on Tuesday at the ICT Park of Gombe State University.

She noted that since assuming office, Governor Yahaya has prioritized the education sector through various policies and programs aimed at repositioning it. Dukku emphasized that ensuring access to education for girls is a collective responsibility and called on stakeholders to support the governor’s initiatives.

Declaring the training open, the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Aishatu Umar Maigari, said Gombe State’s participation in the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Project was made possible by the governor’s strong political will.

She added that Governor Yahaya personally appealed to the World Bank for a comprehensive overhaul of the eight girls’ schools under the AGILE Project, demonstrating his commitment to improving girl-child education.

The Special Adviser on Donor Partners Coordination, Dr. Ishiyaku Babayo Ibrahim, stated that the governor is closely monitoring the AGILE Project to ensure its full implementation for the benefit of adolescent girls in the state.

He urged participants to take their training seriously to support the project’s success.

Earlier, the project coordinator, Dr. Amina Haruna Abdul, outlined the project’s objectives and called for collective efforts to achieve its goals.

Participants for the training were selected from tertiary institutions across the state by the consulting firm Homesmith Engineering Limited, in collaboration with the Gombe State AGILE Project.
