Zulum Approves Salary Restoration for 72 Teachers

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State has approved the restoration of salaries for 72 teachers, the Executive Chairman of the Borno State Secondary Education Board, Alhaji Ali Kaka, announced on Thursday.

Speaking at a press briefing in Maiduguri, Kaka commended Zulum for his intervention in addressing the salary issues, which he said were inherited from the now-defunct Teaching Service Board. He assured that the current board has taken decisive steps to resolve the matter.

Kaka also lauded the Commissioner for Education, Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe, for his support in ensuring the affected teachers receive their entitlements.

He said the governor had also provided vehicles for school supervision and completed the renovation of the board’s headquarters to enhance operational efficiency.

Teachers, Principals Laud Zulum’s Commitment

The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Borno State Chapter, and school principals expressed gratitude for the governor’s decision, describing it as a testament to his commitment to improving education.

Assistant Secretary of NUT and member of the Senior Secondary Education Board, Comrade Bako Lawan, said the gesture had rekindled hope among teachers who had lost faith in the system.

“Many had given up, some even left the service believing they would never be considered. But today, they have seen that the governor truly cares. He has restored their dignity and given them hope again,” he said.

One of the beneficiaries, Yusuf Ishaku, also appreciated Zulum’s intervention, saying it would boost teachers’ morale.

Similarly, Chairman of the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPS), Abba Ali Ladan, commended Zulum for prioritizing education.

He also acknowledged the efforts of the Commissioner for Education, Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe, and the Executive Secretary of the Secondary Education Board, Alhaji Ali Kaka, in championing teachers’ welfare.

The restoration of salaries is expected to enhance productivity among teachers and contribute to the development of education in the state.
