
A man, Friday Murya, has died after being stabbed by his younger brother, Monday Murya, during a dispute over a N200 piece of meat in Adamawa State.
The incident occurred on Sunday, March 9, in Waltadi, a community in Dumne, Song Local Government Area of the state.
A witness told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday that the altercation started when Friday took a piece of meat from Monday, a butcher, without paying for it.
“Monday demanded payment, but Friday refused and engaged him in an argument. The situation escalated, and Monday stabbed Friday with a knife,” the witness said.
The source added that another elder brother, Sinairu Murya, who attempted to intervene, was also stabbed.
Sinairu is currently receiving treatment at Dumne Cottage Hospital, while Friday was rushed to the Modibbo Adama Teaching Hospital, Yola, where he was confirmed dead.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Adamawa State Police Command, SP Suleiman Nguroje, said he had not been briefed on the incident.
Meanwhile, residents of Waltadi community have expressed shock over the incident, calling for justice and measures to prevent similar occurrences.
