Gov. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa has appealed to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, to establish police institutions in the state, in line with similar structures in other Northeast states.
Fintiri made the request on Thursday during a courtesy visit by the IGP to Government House, Yola.
He urged the police chief to establish a Police Mobile Base and a Counter-Terrorism Unit in Madagali Local Government Area to strengthen the fight against Boko Haram insurgency.
The governor commended the IGP for visiting Adamawa for the second time and assured him of sustained collaboration between the state government and the police.
“My administration will continue to support the police logistically and financially to ensure the peace and security of Adamawa and the country at large,” Fintiri said.
Earlier, Egbetokun said his visit was to appreciate the governor, his administration, and the people of Adamawa for their support to the police.
He described Adamawa as home to many police personalities and noted that the force had recorded several successes in collaboration with the military.
The IGP urged that the existing partnership be strengthened to ensure continued security and democratic dividends for the people.
“My leadership will continue to build capacity, equip officers with the necessary skills, and prioritize community engagement to enhance security,” Egbetokun added.
