Suspected Insurgents Attack Yobe Military Base 48 Hours After North-East Govs Meeting

Suspected Boko Haram insurgents have attacked the 27 Task Force Brigade in Bunigari, Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State, less than 48 hours after the North-East governors held their 11th forum meeting in Damaturu.

Residents confirmed the attack, which occurred around 1:00 am on Saturday, saying heavy gunfire was heard at the military base. A military source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the attack but said details were still sketchy.

The insurgents have been active in the region, attacking military formations, destroying infrastructure, and abducting individuals, creating fear among surrounding communities. This latest attack comes days after the North-East governors met to discuss approaches to tackling insecurity in the region.

The attack highlights the ongoing security challenges in the region and the need for sustained efforts to combat terrorism.
