
The Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) has shared a total of N1.659 trillion as May 2025 revenue among the Federal Government, 36 States and 774 Local Government Councils.
The disbursement was announced in a communiqué issued at the end of the FAAC meeting for June 2025, held in Abuja.
The revenue was drawn from a distributable statutory revenue of N863.895 billion, Value Added Tax (VAT) of N691.714 billion, Electronic Money Transfer Levy (EMTL) of N27.667 billion, and Exchange Difference revenue of N76.614 billion.
According to the communiqué signed by the Director (Press and Public Relations), Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, Bawa Mokwa, a total gross revenue of N2.942 trillion was generated in May 2025.
From this, deductions for the cost of collection stood at N111.908 billion, while N1.171 trillion was allocated for transfers, interventions and refunds.
The gross statutory revenue received in May was N2.094 trillion, showing a slight increase of N10.023 billion over the N2.084 trillion recorded in April 2025.
Similarly, VAT revenue rose to N742.820 billion in May, higher than the N642.265 billion recorded in April, representing an increase of N100.555 billion.
Out of the N1.659 trillion distributable revenue, the Federal Government received N538.004 billion, State Governments got N577.841 billion, and Local Government Councils received N419.968 billion.
Additionally, N124.076 billion was distributed to oil-producing states as 13 per cent derivation revenue.
From the N863.895 billion statutory revenue, the Federal Government received N393.518 billion, States got N199.598 billion, Local Governments received N153.881 billion, while N116.898 billion went to oil-producing states as derivation.
The breakdown of the N691.714 billion VAT allocation shows the Federal Government received N103.757 billion, States received N345.857 billion, and Local Governments got N242.100 billion.
Out of the N27.667 billion EMTL revenue, the Federal Government received N4.150 billion, States N13.833 billion, and Local Governments N9.683 billion.
Similarly, the N76.614 billion from Exchange Difference was distributed as follows: Federal Government, N36.579 billion; States, N18.553 billion; Local Governments, N14.304 billion; and derivation allocation of N7.178 billion.
The communiqué noted significant increases in Companies Income Tax (CIT), VAT, and Import Duty. However, Petroleum Profit Tax (PPT), Oil and Gas Royalties, CET Levies, and EMTL recorded declines. Excise Duty experienced marginal growth.
The FAAC monthly disbursement is critical to the operations of all tiers of government, funding public services, infrastructure, and recurrent expenditure across the federation.
