Buni Approves Integrated Science College in Damaturu

Gov. Mai Mala Buni of Yobe has approved the establishment of the Mai Mala Buni College of Integrated Science (MMB-CIS) in Damaturu, the state capital.

The state’s Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Assoc. Prof. Abba Idris Adam, disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen on Thursday in Damaturu.

He said the governor also approved the allocation of 100 hectares of land near the Bukar Abba Ibrahim Housing Estate along Potiskum Road for the construction of the college.

Adam explained that the institution would be a model of integrated education, combining conventional academic subjects and Islamic education into a unified curriculum.

He said the initiative aligns with the governor’s commitment to revamping the education sector in the state and would serve as a legacy project of the administration.

“The college will operate a bilingual curriculum in English and Arabic, embed Islamic moral values across subjects, and provide modern facilities tailored to Islamic ethos,” Adam said.

He noted that the curriculum would draw inspiration from successful educational models in Malaysia and Indonesia, and would focus on producing students who are both Qur’an memorizers and world-class professionals.

The commissioner outlined the key objectives of the college to include:

Offering both Islamic and conventional education;

Preserving Islamic heritage and moral values;

Delivering globally competitive academic training;

Preparing students for national and international opportunities;

Reducing the number of out-of-school children in the state.

He added that the governor had also approved the constitution of a 10-member Steering Committee to oversee the successful establishment of the college.

The committee, chaired by the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, includes academics, education administrators and representatives from relevant government agencies.

Members of the Steering Committee:

1. Assoc. Prof. Abba Idris Adam – Chairman

2. Umaru Hassan Babayo (Chairman, YB-SUBEB) – Member

3. Dr. Bukar Aji Bukar (Permanent Secretary) – Member

4. Prof. Sheriff Muhammad Ibrahim (Prof. of Islamic Finance) – Member

Adam said the college would be instrumental in improving access to quality education in the state and in line with the administration’s earlier declaration of a state of emergency on education.

He reiterated the government’s resolve to continue investing in infrastructure, curriculum reform, and human capital development to uplift education standards in Yobe.
