Buni Takes Over 176 Housing Units From FG, Hails Tinubu

The Yobe Government has taken over 176 housing units from the Federal Government, a move expected to ease the state’s housing deficit and improve access to affordable housing.

The houses, located at Maisandari Housing Estate in Damaturu, were officially handed over to Gov. Mai Mala Buni by the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development at a brief ceremony on Thursday.

The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, who was represented by Mathius Iliya Kastula, handed over the estate to the state government.

Gov. Buni, who was represented by the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmad Buba, commended President Bola Tinubu for approving the transfer of the estate to the state.

He described the gesture as a demonstration of the Federal Government’s support in addressing the developmental needs of states.

“On behalf of the government and people of Yobe, I thank President Tinubu for this timely intervention. This project is not just about buildings, but about restoring dignity to our people,” he said.

Speaking at the event, the Minister and the State Controller of Housing, Muazu Abubakar, praised Gov. Buni’s foresight in acquiring the houses for the benefit of residents, particularly civil servants and low-income earners.

Buba said the state purchased 176 out of 208 units built by the Federal Government at a cost of over ₦2 billion.

He said plans were underway to complete and rehabilitate the remaining 32 units before allocation.

According to him, the acquisition will help reduce pressure on urban housing, stabilise rent prices, create jobs, and promote development in surrounding communities.

“This is a landmark achievement that aligns with Governor Buni’s vision of building safe and sustainable communities,” he added.

Highlights of the ceremony included the symbolic handing over of keys and an inspection tour of the estate.
