Bauchi Govt Receives Report on Creation of Emirates, Districts

Gov. Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State on Friday received the report of the Committee on the Creation of Additional Emirates, Chiefdoms and Districts, describing it as a major step towards strengthening grassroots governance.

The governor, who received the report at the Government House in Bauchi, commended the committee for what he called a transparent and inclusive process.

He said the initiative was aimed at decentralising governance, addressing ungoverned areas, and giving communities a greater sense of belonging.

“We are committed to strengthening traditional institutions and deepening grassroots administration. This exercise is part of our broader vision to make governance more accessible and effective,” Mohammed said.

He assured stakeholders that the government would implement the committee’s recommendations fairly, balancing the aspirations of new communities with the interests of existing traditional institutions.

Presenting the report, the committee chairman, Alhaji Hamza Koshe Akuyam, said the committee recommended the creation of 13 new Emirates, two Chiefdoms, and 111 Districts across the state.

He said the committee received and reviewed 196 memoranda from various communities and assessed them based on historical, cultural and administrative relevance.

The committee was inaugurated by the governor in July 2025.
