No fewer than 815 constables from the 2022/2023 intake, Batch B, have completed their six-month training at the Police College in Maiduguri, Borno State.
The passing out parade, held on Tuesday, was attended by top government and police officials. Gov. Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno was represented at the event by his Deputy, Hon. Umar Kadafur.
Reading the governor’s speech, Kadafur congratulated the new officers and described their graduation as a significant step in strengthening security across the North-East region.
“Today, we do not just witness a ceremony, we witness a pivotal moment in the ongoing story of peace and security in our beloved state and the North-East sub-region,” he said.
He praised the constables for enduring what he described as “a rigorous and transformative” training that tested their physical, intellectual, and moral capacities.
“The uniform you wear today is not merely a piece of clothing. It is a symbol of authority, a shield for the innocent, and a beacon of hope for our society,” he said.
Kadafur charged the new officers to exhibit professionalism, fairness, and respect for the citizens they serve, stressing that their role goes beyond combat to include community engagement.
“You are now expected to be diplomats, counsellors and trusted figures. The public’s trust is your most powerful weapon,” he added.
In his remarks, the Commandant of the Police College, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of training, commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for prioritising security reforms and ensuring the sustainability of police training programmes.
He noted that improved funding and timely allocation of resources had helped maintain high training standards and enhanced infrastructure at the college.
The Commandant also lauded Gov. Zulum for his continuous support, describing the governor as “courageous, pragmatic, and committed” to security development in the state.
He, however, appealed for urgent interventions in the areas of water supply, perimeter fencing, sanitation, hostel facilities, and transportation for the college.
Providing deployment details, the Commandant disclosed that 362 recruits will be posted to Adamawa State, 283 to Borno State, and 170 to Yobe State.
