Adamawa Govt Inaugurates Committee to Recruit 5,000 Teachers

The Adamawa State Government has inaugurated a committee to oversee the recruitment of 5,000 teachers as part of efforts to strengthen the education sector across the state.

The inauguration ceremony, held at the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development Conference Hall on Tuesday in Yola, was presided over by the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Comrade Umar Garba Pella.

According to the Commissioner, the committee has been given a two-week deadline to screen and select the most qualified candidates from a pool of over 18,000 applicants.

The recruitment committee is chaired by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Hajia Aisha Abubakar Umar, and co-chaired by the Acting Executive Secretary of the Post Primary Schools Management Board (PPSMB), Mr. Birsan Penuel.

Other members are drawn from key government institutions, including the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), the Civil Service Commission, and the Office of the Head of Service, among others.

Comrade Pella reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to transparency and merit-based recruitment, urging committee members to carry out their duties with integrity and professionalism.

“This government enjoys a high level of trust from the people, and we are committed to sustaining that trust,” he said. “We were elected to serve, and this process must reflect fairness, accountability, and the Governor’s passion for good governance.”

He cautioned committee members against any form of irregularity or personal interest during the selection process and wished them success in their assignment.

The Executive Chairman of PPSMB and other senior education stakeholders were present at the event.
