Adamawa Approves Land for Airstrip Construction in Mubi

The Adamawa State Government has approved the allocation of land to the Federal Ministry of Aviation for the construction of an airstrip in Mubi.

The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr Auwal Tukur, disclosed this on Wednesday while briefing Government House correspondents after a meeting with a federal delegation that visited the area for an on-the-spot assessment.

Tukur explained that although an airstrip previously existed in the area, it had been encroached upon, making it necessary for the state government to allocate a new site for the project.

In a related development, the state government, in collaboration with officials of the Federal Ministry of Aviation and its agencies, conducted an inspection of the proposed airstrip site in Hong Local Government Area.

The federal delegation comprised officials from the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN). It was led by Engr. Samuel G. Mzekwe of the Federal Ministry of Aviation.

The proposed site is located along the Mararraba-Mubi axis in Kwarhi and Hildi District of Hong LGA.

The state delegation was led by the Permanent Secretary, Political Matters, Office of the SSG, Malam Ibrahim Buba. Other members included the State Surveyor-General, Mr Pwavidon Arnold Simon; the Executive Chairman of Hong LGA, Hon. Inuwa Waganda; and other relevant state and local government officials.

During the inspection, the federal officials assessed the suitability of the land and made technical observations and recommendations.

The state government team acknowledged the recommendations and resolved to compile and forward them to Gov. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri through the SSG for necessary action.

The inspection forms part of the state government’s efforts to accelerate infrastructure development and promote socio-economic growth at the grassroots.
