
The Adamawa Government has approved a new minimum wage of N70,000 for local government workers in the state.
The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Iliya James, disclosed this while briefing newsmen shortly after the State Executive Council (SEC) meeting held on Wednesday in Yola.
James said the meeting was presided over by Gov. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri and was part of efforts to improve the welfare of workers in the state.
He said the council also reviewed the 2024 budget performance, noting that it had reached 80 per cent implementation, compared to 56 per cent in 2023.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Finance and Budget, Mrs. Augustina Wandamiya, and the Director-General of the Bureau of Budget, Mr. Emmanuel Pridimso, explained that the focus was on the redeployment of surpluses and closing balances of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
Pridimso said the move was to ensure effective closure of the financial year and sustain developmental projects.
He added that the government remained committed to financial discipline and transparency in the management of public funds.
