Adamawa Deputy Gov Flags Off NYSC Orientation, Assures Corps Members of Safety

The Deputy Governor of Adamawa State, Prof. Kaletapwa George Farauta, on Friday declared open the 2025 Batch A Stream II orientation course for corps members deployed to the state, assuring them of adequate security and a conducive environment throughout their service year.

Farauta, who represented Gov. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Damare, Girei Local Government Area, warmly welcomed the corps members and granted them honorary citizenship of Adamawa State for the duration of their national service.

She commended their commitment to national development and encouraged them to embrace the state’s rich cultural diversity. Farauta reaffirmed the state government’s continued support to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), citing the sustained payment of a ₦20,000 monthly allowance, popularly referred to as the “Fintiri Allawee,” as a gesture of goodwill and encouragement.

“We want you to feel at home. Embrace the diversity around you and use every opportunity here to grow,” she said.

The Deputy Governor also applauded the camp officials for organizing a smooth and colourful swearing-in ceremony, which she described as a significant milestone in the corps members’ national journey.

The high point of the event was the administration of the oath of allegiance to the corps members by Hon. Justice Kyanson Samuel Lawson, who represented the Chief Judge of Adamawa State. Representatives from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) took turns to sign the oath on behalf of their platoons.

Earlier, the NYSC Adamawa State Coordinator, Mrs. Caroline Osoroh Chinedu, expressed appreciation to the state government for its unwavering support to the scheme. She specifically thanked the governor for sustaining the ₦20,000 monthly stipend to corps members, which she said had significantly boosted morale.

She congratulated the new corps members and urged them to remain disciplined, focused and committed to the objectives of the NYSC.

“The orientation camp is not just a place to serve—it is a place to grow. Embrace the culture, learn from one another, and make meaningful impact,” she said.

Also speaking, the Chairman, NYSC Governing Board in the state, Hon. Barr. Wale Yakubu, welcomed the corps members and lauded the government for prioritising youth empowerment. He encouraged them to actively participate in all camp programmes, particularly the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) initiative, aimed at making them self-reliant.

The occasion was further enlivened by a friendly Tug of War contest between the “His Excellency Team” and the “Governing Board Team,” organised by the Man O’ War unit. The contest, which aimed to foster unity and teamwork, ended in favour of the “His Excellency Team” with two straight wins.

Dignitaries at the event included top NYSC and government officials, members of the judiciary, traditional rulers, and representatives of the NYSC governing board. The ceremony drew enthusiastic applause from corps members and invited guests.
