Adamawa Flags Off Distribution of 42 Trucks of Rice to Vulnerable Residents

The Adamawa State Government on Tuesday flagged off the distribution of 42 trucks of 50kg bags of parboiled rice to less privileged and vulnerable residents across the 21 local government areas of the state.

The rice, procured by the various local councils, is being distributed at the rate of two trucks per local government as part of efforts to support citizens at the grassroots level, especially during the festive period.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony along Numan Road in Yola, the State Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Alhaji Ibrahim Mijinyawa  Yayaji, said each local government would receive 1,200 bags of rice for onward distribution to beneficiaries.

He described the initiative as a collective gesture of goodwill by the council chairmen aimed at cushioning the economic hardship faced by residents.

The commissioner commended the local government councils for the initiative and reaffirmed the commitment of the Fintiri-led administration to prioritising the welfare of the people, particularly the vulnerable, during critical periods.

Also speaking, the State Chairman of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), Hon. Suleiman Ahmed Gangkuba said the distribution aligns with the administration’s agenda of taking governance and relief directly to the grassroots.

He noted that the exercise demonstrates the resolve of local governments to complement state efforts in improving the living conditions of citizens.

Highlights of the flag-off included a tour of four designated distribution centres within the state capital by the Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, accompanied by some council chairmen, to monitor the commencement of the exercise.
