Adamawa Government Cleans Up Key Entry Points in Yola, Mulls Recreational Facility

The Adamawa State Government has commenced an intensive environmental cleanup at major entry points in Yola as part of efforts to improve sanitation, public safety, and urban aesthetics.

Deputy Governor, Prof. Kaletapwa George Farauta, led a high-level inspection tour on Friday to assess the ongoing exercise at Clear Way 17, Maidoki Roundabout in Yola North, and the Supermarket area near Lamido’s Palace in Yola South.

Accompanied by the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources Development, Hon. Mohammed Sadiq, the Deputy Governor said the exercise was initiated in response to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s directive to clean and rehabilitate strategic locations, particularly those serving as gateways into the state.

Addressing the press during the visit to Maidoki Roundabout, Prof. Farauta described the site as a priority due to its proximity to the Yola Airport. She condemned the persistent dumping of refuse in the area and affirmed government’s determination to transform it into a green and welcoming space.

“This area, which was previously an eyesore, will be turned into an attractive landscape that reflects positively on the state,” she said.

At the second inspection site near the Supermarket by Lamido’s Palace, Farauta said the effort was not only aimed at beautification but also at promoting public safety and reducing accidents and security threats.

She revealed that the location is being considered for the establishment of a recreational and social facility, particularly to benefit the youth and improve community engagement.

To ensure swift and coordinated implementation, the Deputy Governor announced the formation of a dedicated monitoring committee. The committee will oversee progress and ensure alignment with Governor Fintiri’s wider infrastructure and beautification agenda.

Some residents, including Abubakar Pella and Mohammed Umar, commended the government’s efforts, describing the cleanup as timely and beneficial to the community.

They noted that beyond visual appeal, the initiative would help reduce hazards and create a more secure environment.
