The Adamawa State Executive Council on Wednesday approved contracts worth N11.4 billion for the execution of key development projects across the state, including the construction of a new National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) permanent orientation camp at Malkohi in Yola South Local Government Area.

The State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr James Iliya, disclosed this while briefing journalists shortly after the council meeting presided over by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri at the Government House, Yola.

Iliya said the NYSC camp project, valued at N7.7 billion, has been divided into 21 lots to be handled by 21 contractors, with a completion period of six months from the date of contract signing. He said the new facility would enable the state government to relocate NYSC activities from the current site in Girei to Malkohi.

The commissioner further stated that the council approved the remodeling and upgrading of Cottage Hospital, Gulak, in Madagali Local Government Area, at a cost of N1.5 billion. The project, to be executed by The Reach Shortskill Limited, is expected to be completed within 52 weeks.

On health logistics, Iliya said the council awarded a contract for the procurement of drugs for the State Medicine Distribution Centre, Kofare, at a total cost of N499 million. The supply, to be completed within a few weeks, would be handled by Malina Pharmaceutical Limited.

The commissioner also announced the approval of N499 million for the upgrade of the Guyuk Water Supply Scheme, to be executed by Hill Water Resources Nigeria Limited within three months.

He noted that the water scheme had been neglected for several years, and the government found it necessary to revive it in order to improve access to clean water and enhance living conditions in the area.

Furthermore, Iliya said the council approved an upward review of N117 million for the rehabilitation of electricity supply at Bahuli in Mubi North Local Government Area. The project, to be completed within three months, would be handled by the same contractor, Messrs S and S Business Bureau Limited.
