Briefing newsmen after the meeting, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr James Iliya, said the funds would be channelled towards key sectors such as water supply, education, agricultural inputs and empowerment initiatives.
He explained that the projects would be implemented by relevant ministries and supervised by members of the State House of Assembly from the benefiting LGAs.
“The Council approved N2.5 billion to support developmental efforts in communities across all 21 local government areas. These projects are aimed at improving access to water, enhancing education, boosting agricultural productivity and empowering citizens economically,” he said.
The commissioner also disclosed that the Council approved the publication of the 2024 Business Enabling Reform Action Plan (BERAP) progress report, as part of efforts to meet eligibility for the 2025 implementation cycle of the State Action on Business Enabling Reforms (SABER) programme.
On environmental safety, Iliya said the Council urged residents of flood-prone areas to be on high alert and relocate to safer locations ahead of anticipated flooding in the state.
He advised residents to avoid night-time travel by boat and ensure the use of life jackets, noting that water levels were expected to rise as the rains intensify.
“The state government remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens, especially in the face of seasonal flooding,” he added.
The commissioner reiterated the government’s resolve to implement people-oriented programmes that would improve living standards across the state.
