The Adamawa State Government has approved the establishment of a zonal office of the Nigeria Press Council (NPC) in the state.
The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Iliya James, disclosed this in Yola, saying the initiative reflected the government’s commitment to strengthening information management and promoting press freedom.
James said the approval also demonstrated the administration’s readiness to deepen collaboration with media practitioners in the state.
He reiterated that the Ministry of Information and Strategy would continue to ensure transparent and effective dissemination of government policies and programmes to enhance public trust.
Earlier, the Director of the Nigeria Press Council, Mrs Chinyere Facah, paid a courtesy visit to the commissioner to discuss the project, which she said was part of a national initiative under the Office of the Vice President, Sen. Kashim Shettima.
Facah expressed appreciation to Gov. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for approving an office space for the Council, noting that the gesture would enhance the Council’s operations in the North-East.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr Solomon Kumangar, said the Fintiri administration had continued to transform the information sector by strengthening media institutions and adopting modern communication tools.
The visit, he added, marked a significant step toward establishing the Nigeria Press Council’s zonal office in Adamawa State to foster a free, responsible and professional press in the region.
