The Adamawa State Executive Council has approved the sum of ₦1,933,971,838.91 for the furnishing of the state High Court and compensation for property owners affected by development behind the Jimeta Shopping Complex.
The approval was granted at the first State Executive Council Meeting of 2025, presided over by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri on Wednesday at the Council Chamber, Government House, Yola.
Briefing newsmen after the meeting, the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of the State, Barrister Afraimu Jingi, said the council had approved ₦1,743,107,838.91 for furnishing High Court Complex A and B, which were approved for remodeling and upgrade in April 2024. The allocation also covers the furnishing of the newly constructed multi-purpose hall within the court premises.
“This furniture is of the highest standard, the best in the world,” Jingi said. “The government’s commitment to quality will not be compromised. The High Court deserves the best.”
The contract for the furniture supply was awarded to Logic Build Nigeria Ltd, a company noted for its quality workmanship.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Commerce, Trade and Industry, Honourable John Dabari, said the government had approved ₦190,864,000 as compensation for property owners behind the Jimeta Shopping Complex.
He explained that the structures behind the complex would be demolished to align with the neighborhood, secure the market, and enhance the area’s aesthetics.
“This move will improve the security of the market and enhance its overall appearance,” Dabari added.
This development follows the demolition of the shopping complex last year, with work already underway to construct a new ultra-modern facility.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Honourable Wali Yakubu, announced the resumption of the annual Governor’s Cup football tournament in Adamawa.
He said the tournament would kick off on Sunday, Feb. 16, 2025, at the Federal College of Education, Yola football field.
