Adamawa Govt Moves to Connect LGAs to Internet

The Adamawa State Government has initiated plans to provide internet connectivity across all 21 local government areas (LGAs), with a focus on schools and public institutions.

Deputy Governor Professor Kaletapwa Farauta revealed this at the conclusion of a specialized training program organized in collaboration with the Nigerian Communications Satellite (NIGCOMSAT).

The training, held at the Adamawa State Polytechnic, Yola, equipped 100 youths with skills to address internet connectivity issues, particularly in rural areas. Topics covered included cybersecurity, disaster management, and rural connectivity challenges.

Speaking at the event on Friday, Farauta emphasized that the government is leveraging satellite and fiber technology to bridge the digital divide, even in remote communities.

“Government is collaborating with the Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy to provide high-speed internet connectivity to all schools, primary healthcare centers, and other public institutions,” she stated.

Additionally, the deputy governor disclosed that the government has approved the digitalization of civil service records to enhance efficiency and real-time access to crucial government data.

She further explained that Adamawa State is embracing the Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) empowerment program and the Spacehack 2025 initiative as part of its broader plan to establish a compact modular OneGov data center. The center will enable seamless data sharing among Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to promote transparency.

NIGCOMSAT Managing Director, Jane Egerton, also affirmed that plans have been finalized to roll out broadband connectivity across all 21 LGAs in Adamawa State.

This initiative is expected to boost digital access, improve service delivery, and enhance economic opportunities across the state.
