Adamawa Govt Opens Bids for Army Barracks Road Project

The Adamawa State Ministry of Works and Energy Development has opened bids for the construction of a 4.6-kilometre internal road network within the Army Barracks in the state capital, as part of the Fintiri-led administration’s commitment to addressing infrastructure gaps.

The bid opening ceremony, held at the Conference Hall of the Ministry at the State Secretariat, was attended by directors from the Ministry, representatives of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply Management of Nigeria (CIPSMN), civil society organisations, and the Bureau for Public Procurement (BPP).

The road project is estimated to cost N2,429,349,928.31.

Representing the Commissioner of Works and Energy Development, Hon. Adamu Atiku, the Director of Civil Engineering, Engr. Geoffrey Dariya, stated that the internal road construction was conceived as a vital extension to the ongoing Adamawa Super Highway project.

He emphasized that the bidding process was in line with government policy to ensure transparency, value for money, and healthy competition among qualified contractors.

“This bid opening exercise demonstrates the Ministry’s commitment to fairness, openness, and accountability in project procurement. Contractors are urged to deliver quality work within the stipulated timeline,” he said.

Also speaking, Mr. Nuhu Hayatu, representative of the Director of Procurement, explained that the road project had already been incorporated into an existing contract awarded to Triacta Nigeria Limited under the Adamawa Super Highway scheme.

In his remarks, the Adamawa State Chairman of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Engr. Aminu Yaro, commended the Ministry for the transparent and professional conduct of the bid opening. He noted that the use of digital tools in the process enhances credibility and aligns with global best practices.

Similarly, Mr. Yakubu Iliya, speaking on behalf of CIPSMN, praised the Ministry for sustaining transparency and fairness in its procurement processes. He also lauded the strategic decision to extend the project to benefit military installations and contribute to broader infrastructural development in the state.

In his closing address, the Commissioner reaffirmed the Ministry’s resolve to ensure quality assurance, due process, and timely completion of all ongoing and future road projects across the state.
