The Adamawa State Government has announced plans to establish a peace commission to sustain the achievements of the COMITAS project, which has reduced violent clashes between farmers and herders over natural resources.
Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri made this known during the close-out ceremony of COMITAS II on Friday. Represented by his Chief of Staff, Edgar Amos, Fintiri highlighted the progress in socio-economic activities within conflict-affected areas of the state.
“The successes of the COMITAS initiative in promoting peace and fostering development demonstrate the need for sustained efforts in resolving disputes,” Fintiri said.
He commended the Search for Common Ground initiative for its role in facilitating dialogue and lasting solutions to farmer-herder conflicts.
The proposed peace commission, the governor added, would consolidate the project’s achievements and ensure continued harmony in the state.
