Adamawa Lawmaker Moves to Boost Interest in Science Among Students

A member of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, Hon. Musa Kallamu, representing Mayo-Belwa Constituency, has initiated a comprehensive plan to promote science education among students in his constituency.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday at the State Assembly Complex in Yola, Kallamu expressed concern over the declining number of students pursuing science-related courses, describing it as a challenge that must be addressed to secure the future development of Mayo-Belwa.

“There is urgent need to encourage interest in science for the development and future progress of Mayo-Belwa,” the lawmaker stated.

As part of efforts to tackle the issue, Kallamu revealed that he has set up a committee on educational interventions made up of intellectuals and education experts. The committee’s mandate, he said, is to guide and counsel students across all levels — primary, secondary, and tertiary — to develop interest and competence in science.

The committee will implement a series of educational programmes, including inter-primary school quiz competitions, science coaching classes, and mentorship initiatives to improve learning outcomes and academic performance.

In addition, Kallamu disclosed plans to revive the defunct Mayo-Belwa Integrated Youths Development Association (MIYODA), an initiative previously dedicated to mentoring young students and fostering academic excellence within the community.

He reaffirmed his commitment to transforming the educational landscape of Mayo-Belwa and equipping the younger generation with the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in a science-driven global economy.
