Adamawa Man Faces Trial For Allegedly Killing Friend With Hoe

A middle-aged man, Gambo Shimyangei, has been arraigned before the Adamawa State High Court of Justice for allegedly killing his friend, Kpeshi Hananiah, with a hoe.

The defendant, from Shafan community in Lamurde LGA, is facing trial for culpable homicide, which contravenes section 192 (a) of the Penal Code Law 2018. According to the prosecution, Gambo hit Kpeshi on the head with a hoe during a dispute on June 14, 2023, resulting in his death.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted bail on the same terms as previously granted by the Committee of Prerogative Mercy. The case has been adjourned to May 23, 2024, for hearing.

The prosecution, led by A.A. Yakubu (Senior State Counsel I), intends to assemble witnesses to prove its case against the defendant. The defense counsel, M. J., requested an extension of the bail, which was granted by the judge, Hon. Justice Ishaku Haliru Yakubu.
