The Adamawa State Government has signed a broadcasting service agreement with Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT) to expand the reach of Adamawa Television (ATV) across West Africa.
The agreement involves leasing 2MHz on the Ku-band of the NIGCOMSAT-1R satellite, which will enable wider and more reliable transmission for the state-owned broadcaster.
Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Iliya James, described the partnership as a major milestone in the ongoing digital transformation of the state’s media sector.
“This collaboration with NIGCOMSAT is a big leap in our quest to reposition Adamawa Television for digital broadcasting,” he said.
He said the expanded coverage would enhance the visibility of the state and support the promotion of government programmes, investment opportunities, and cultural heritage.
Secretary to the State Government, Hon. Awwal D. Tukur, who led the state’s delegation at the signing, said the initiative was part of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s Adamawa 2.0 agenda to modernise governance and public communication.
Tukur noted that the governor remained committed to leveraging digital innovation to drive development across all sectors.
Officials of NIGCOMSAT assured the state of technical support and emphasised that the satellite lease would ensure seamless and high-quality transmission.
The agreement marks a new phase for ATV as it transitions into a modern broadcasting platform with continental reach.
