Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has announced the state government’s readiness to partner with the North East Development Commission (NEDC) to commence the rehabilitation of Waga Bridge, a critical border bridge linking Adamawa and Borno states.
Governor Fintiri made this known during a press briefing after inspecting the bridge in Madagali Local Government Area on Friday.
He emphasized the importance of the bridge, which is on a federal road and serves as the major route to Sambisa Forest and the Mandara Mountains, a known hideout for Boko Haram insurgents.
The governor expressed concern that if the bridge is not repaired, it will not only pose a danger to the communities in the area but also hinder the operations of security agencies, particularly the army.
He assured that the rehabilitation work will commence immediately, as the state government is already in talks with NEDC, which has the mandate to carry out such projects.
Governor Fintiri stressed that the road is essential to both Adamawa and Borno states, and the partnership with NEDC will ensure its prompt rehabilitation.
The Waga Bridge was washed away by erosion, cutting off the vital link between the two states. The rehabilitation project aims to restore the bridge and ensure the safe passage of people and goods in the region.
