The Adamawa State Executive Council, presided over by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has approved the sum of N14 billion for the construction of an International Conference Centre and the upgrading of the College of Agricultural Science to enhance service delivery in the state.
The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr James Iliya, disclosed this on Friday while briefing Government House correspondents alongside other commissioners shortly after the Council meeting in Yola.
Iliya said the funds would also support rural access and agricultural marketing projects across the state, adding that previously abandoned projects would be revived under the initiative.
He clarified that the approval did not constitute a supplementary budget but a realignment to ensure proper execution of critical projects.
The Council also approved the award of a contract to engage consultants for pre- and post-contract services for the remodelling and redevelopment of staff quarters at the Specialist Hospital, Yola.
Iliya further revealed the government’s plan to launch a public awareness campaign on climate-related challenges, following the Nigerian Meteorological Agency’s 2025 weather outlook report.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mr Emmanuel Predimso, said the approved budget amendment and virement would accommodate new and pressing projects for the state’s development.
The Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Chief Felix Tangwami, announced the commencement of free kidney dialysis services at the Adamawa State Specialist Hospital, Yola, and the General Hospital, Numan. He urged residents to remain hydrated and health-conscious.
On his part, the Commissioner for Environment, Mr Mohammed Sadiq, disclosed that 14 local government areas in the state were affected by drought and flooding last year due to climate change.
He said the Council had constituted a committee to investigate and recommend measures within one week to mitigate the impact of climate change in Adamawa.
