The Adamawa State Executive Council has approved over ₦1.2 billion for key infrastructure projects aimed at advancing the state’s development and improving public service delivery.
The approval was made during the council’s 10th meeting of 2025, presided over by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri at the Government House, Yola on Wednesday.
Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Iliya James, disclosed that ₦919 million was approved for the extension of the Adamawa State House of Assembly Complex office. The contract, awarded to Messrs Farassociate Nigeria Limited, is expected to be completed within seven months.
Mr. James explained that the project was originally awarded in 2007 but abandoned. He noted that Governor Fintiri’s administration had revived the project as part of efforts to improve legislative infrastructure in the state.
The council also approved ₦369 million for the renovation, remodeling, and automation of the main entrance gate of the Government House, Yola. The contract was awarded to Messrs Timeless Dizing Limited, which the commissioner described as competent and capable of delivering a state-of-the-art structure.
Mr. James also used the opportunity to advise residents living in flood-prone areas to relocate to safer locations during the rainy season to ensure their safety and protect their properties.
Speaking on the state’s urban renewal agenda, the Commissioner of Housing and Urban Development, Mr. Abdullahi Pirambe, said the Fintiri administration is undertaking comprehensive renovations of several key government facilities. These include the Barde and Gambo Lodges within the Government House, which are being upgraded to modern standards.
In his remarks, the Commissioner of Rural Infrastructure, Mr. Titus Solomon, gave an update on the NYSC–Labondo–Borong road project. He stated that the contract was awarded and the contractor mobilized in early 2024. However, due to prevailing economic conditions, a full assessment of the project’s progress and financial viability is now necessary.
To this end, Mr. Solomon said the council has constituted a committee to evaluate the current status of the road and consider a possible review of the contract sum in line with prevailing market prices of construction materials.
The commissioner added that the committee will also assess the Gereng–Borong road, which frequently becomes impassable due to flooding. He emphasized that the area is waterlogged and would require a durable engineering solution to ensure long-term usability.
Meanwhile, the State Executive Council has expressed condolences to the family of the late Professor Jibril Aminu. The council prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul and for God to grant the bereaved family the fortitude to bear the loss.
