Adamawa State Executive Council, at its 24th meeting, has approved a phase two intervention fund of N235 million to support 941 households affected by floods in Numan, Lamurde, Demsa, Michika, and Madagali.
The council also approved funds to engage consulting services for the development of the Adamawa State Energy Framework and Regulation, worth over N198 million, to be completed within six months.
Mr. Iliya James, the State Commissioner of Information and Strategy reveals this while briefing newsmen after the council meeting presided over by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri on Monday at the Government House in Yola.
Bello Hamman Diram, Commissioner of Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Reintegration Services, explained that the selection of flood intervention fund beneficiaries was based on the severity of the flood’s impact on each area, emphasizing that this support is not an emergency but rather a recovery and development initiative.
Contributing, Alhaji Adamu Atiku, Commissioner of Works and Energy, stated that the power consultant will aid the state in developing its energy policy, state electricity act, and legal framework.
He noted that this move follows the presidential review of the state electricity act in June 2023, which mandated states to generate, distribute, and transmit power, making it essential for each state to establish its energy policy, operational framework, and regulatory agency to achieve energy independence.
The Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Barrister Afraimu Jingi, mentioned that Governor Fintiri’s announcement of the creation of seven chiefdoms and Emirates was made possible by Section Five of the Adamawa State Chiefs Appointment and Deposition Law 2024, which grants him the power to appoint and create chiefdoms in Adamawa State.
