The Adamawa State Government has announced a revision to the operational restrictions imposed on tricycles, commonly known as Keke NAPEP, in Yola North, Yola South, and Girei local government areas.
Previously, Keke NAPEP operators were required to cease operations by 10 pm daily in the affected LGAs. However, under the updated guidelines, these operators now have an additional hour to operate, extending their operational hours.
According to a statement released to the press on Sunday afternoon by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri’s Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou, the revised directive specifies that the previous 10 pm to 5 am restriction has been adjusted to allow operations from 11 pm to 5 am daily throughout the Ramadan fasting period.
Wonosikou clarified that this adjustment aims to facilitate the participation of Muslim faithful in tafsir sessions during the fasting period.
Earlier in February 2021, the Adamawa State Government had enforced a movement restriction order on commercial tricyclists in the three municipal local council areas citing security concerns.
This restriction was implemented through the Adamawa State Restriction of Movement of Tricycles/Motorcycles Executive Order No.1 of 2021.
In light of the relaxed operational hours for Keke NAPEP operators, the government has instructed security agencies to enhance security measures, particularly in the aforementioned local councils.
