The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Adamawa State has called on its members to turn out en masse for the party’s congresses scheduled for Saturday, despite the position of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on its leadership dispute.
INEC had earlier stated that it would not recognise any factional leadership of the party pending the ruling of the Court of Appeal on the ongoing dispute.
Chairman of the party’s Transition Committee in the state, Sadiq Dasin, made the call during an emergency meeting held in Yola to prepare members for the congresses.
Dasin said the party would resist any attempt to weaken its structure ahead of the 2027 general elections, describing moves to hinder its participation in the electoral process as unacceptable.
He faulted INEC’s directive for the party to return to the status quo, arguing that the leadership led by David Mark was already in place prior to the court case that gave rise to the current dispute.
Some stakeholders at the meeting, including Ishaku Abbo and other aspirants, expressed concern over the lingering internal crisis within the party.
They also alleged that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) was attempting to turn the country into a one-party state, an allegation the APC has not officially responded to.
The stakeholders, however, maintained that the ADC enjoys strong grassroots support across the state and would not be deterred by what they described as attempts to undermine the party’s internal processes.
They resolved to mobilise members across Adamawa State to participate actively in the congresses scheduled to hold this weekend.
