
The Board of Trustees of Al-Ansar University, Maiduguri, has approved the appointment of Prof. Fanna Inna Abdulrahman as the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the institution.
Her appointment, which takes effect from Sept. 8, followed the recommendation of the Governing Council in line with the provisions of the University Law (First Schedule Section 4(2) and 3(1)).
Until her appointment, Abdulrahman was on sabbatical leave from the University of Maiduguri, where she lectures in the Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry.
At Al-Ansar University, she previously served as Head of Department of Chemistry and Coordinator of Examinations and Time Table. She was also the immediate past Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Central Administration) of Kashim Ibrahim University, Maiduguri.
Born on March 5, 1963, in Maiduguri, Abdulrahman hails from Ngumati in Monguno Local Government Area of Borno. She attended Yerwa Central Primary School, Maiduguri, and later Federal Government Girls College, Owerri, where she obtained her West African School Certificate in 1980.
She holds a B.Sc. in Chemistry (1987), M.Sc. in Organic Chemistry (1992), Master of Public Administration (1997), and a Ph.D. in Organic/Medicinal Chemistry (2004), all from the University of Maiduguri.
Abdulrahman began her academic career in 1988 as a Graduate Assistant at the University of Maiduguri, rising to the rank of Professor of Medicinal Chemistry in 2011.
She has supervised over 150 undergraduate projects, 35 M.Sc. theses, and 15 Ph.D. dissertations, with five of her doctoral students now serving as Professors.
The new acting vice-chancellor has published more than 150 scholarly articles in reputable journals and attended over 25 conferences worldwide. She also serves as a Professorial Assessor, as well as an External and Internal Examiner to several universities across Nigeria.
Abdulrahman has held several administrative positions, including Head of Department, Faculty Remedial Coordinator, Level Coordinator, Sub-Dean, and Dean of Faculty of Science.
