Alau Dam: CBDA Warns River Ngadda, Gwange Residents As Rehabilitation Begins

The Chad Basin Development Authority (CBDA) has warned residents of River Ngadda and Gwange areas not to panic as the spillway gates of the Alau Dam have been opened, following the commencement of rehabilitation and upgrade works at the facility.

In a statement signed by Executive Director (Engineering), Engr. Mohammed Shettima, on behalf of the Managing Director, CBDA said that the contractor for the project has mobilised to site and work is in progress.

The CBDA explained that the opening of the spillway will allow water in the reservoir to flow steadily downstream, affecting areas from Alau Dam through Lagos Street, Gwange, and Custom bridge to the Jere Bowl.

The authority assured the public that it is closely monitoring the situation and will close the dam gates once water levels recede, stressing that the water is following its normal path and no cause for alarm.

CBDA urged residents in affected areas to remain calm as safety measures are being observed throughout the rehabilitation period.
