APC dismisses plan to replace Shettima in 2027

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed as false reports suggesting that Vice President Kashim Shettima may be replaced as President Bola Tinubu’s running mate ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party, in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr Felix Morka, described the reports as speculative, untrue and baseless.

Morka said the speculation had intensified recently with the circulation of names of individuals purportedly being considered as replacements, a development he said was aimed at creating discord.

He urged media organisations to refrain from amplifying rumours and relying on sources of questionable credibility whose intentions, he said, were to sow confusion in the polity.

According to him, existing laws and electoral regulations still prohibit political activities, adding that the party remains focused on supporting President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima in implementing the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“The APC is committed to backing the bold reforms of the Tinubu administration, which are steadily transforming the economy, promoting prosperity and improving the living conditions of Nigerians,” he said.

Morka also called on ministers, senior government officials and party leaders to avoid actions or comments that could fuel unnecessary speculation, and instead concentrate on diligent service and strengthening the achievements of the administration.

He reaffirmed the party’s unity and support for the current leadership, describing President Tinubu as a visionary leader committed to national development.
