The Nigerian Army has announced the commencement of its Short Service Combatant (SSC) Commission Course recruitment, offering qualified Nigerians the opportunity to serve in the nation’s Combat Arms and Combat Support Arms.

According to a statement released on the Army’s official recruitment portal, the application is open to Nigerian citizens by birth who meet the outlined eligibility criteria.

Prospective applicants must be between the ages of 23 and 27 and hold a minimum of a Higher National Diploma (Lower Credit) or a First Degree (Second Class Lower Division) in Arts, Sciences, or Humanities.

All applicants are expected to be medically, mentally, and physically fit in accordance with Nigerian Army standards. In addition, candidates must be single and possess a valid birth certificate or age declaration, a certificate of state of origin, a NYSC discharge or exemption certificate, and a letter of attestation from former institutions. A recent passport photograph is also required.

The SSC programme is designed to run for a total of 15 years—comprising 10 years on the active list and a renewable five-year extension—after which officers may retire voluntarily. Successful candidates will be commissioned into the rank of Second Lieutenant upon completion of training.

Specialisations covered under the SSC Commission include the Combat Arms such as Infantry and Armour Corps, as well as Combat Support Arms like Artillery, Engineers, Signals, and Intelligence Corps.
