Spain has announced fresh opportunities for international students to study in Europe without the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) requirement for the 2026/2027 academic session, offering access to fully funded and affordable higher education across its universities.
The study options, which cover Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD programmes, are open to students from different parts of the world, with several Spanish universities waiving the IELTS requirement and accepting alternative proof of English proficiency.
According to information released, tuition fees in some institutions start from as low as $400 per year, making Spain one of the most affordable study destinations in Europe. The country also boasts 76 top-ranked universities, rich cultural diversity and strong international exposure for students.
For the 2026/2027 session, over 850,000 scholarship opportunities are reportedly available to support international students across various disciplines and degree levels.
Among the universities offering programmes without IELTS are Universidad Antonio de Nebrija, University of Salamanca, Pablo de Olavide University, University of Valencia, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, and Universitat de Barcelona.
Prospective applicants are required to submit key documents, including completed application forms and academic transcripts, proof of English proficiency such as Medium of Instruction (MOI) letters or university language tests, curriculum vitae or résumé, statement of purpose, recommendation letters, valid international passport, photographs, as well as health insurance and financial proof.
