Army, DSS Nab Suspected Gunrunner, Recover Cache of Arms in Taraba

Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 of Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS), in a coordinated operation with operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), have arrested a suspected high-profile gunrunner in Taraba State.

The operation, conducted around Ambassador Roundabout in Wukari Local Government Area, led to the apprehension of a 29-year-old suspect, Bulyami Shuaib, a native of Belango Village in Karim Lamido Local Government Area.

This was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the Public Relations Officer of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Lt. Umar Muhammad.

According to the statement, the suspect is believed to be a major arms dealer with an extensive network across the region.

Items recovered from the suspect include 362 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, one round of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, ₦842,100 in cash, one black Jing Cheng motorcycle, one Redmi Android phone, one itel phone, two silver rings, and a First Bank ATM card.

Muhammad stated that the suspect is currently in custody and has begun providing useful information to aid further investigations and enhance ongoing operations.

Reacting to the development, the Commander of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 OPWS, Brig.-Gen. Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, lauded the troops for their professionalism and successful execution of the operation.

He reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment, in synergy with other security agencies, to rid Taraba and surrounding areas of criminal elements threatening the peace and safety of residents.

The commander also urged residents to support security agencies by volunteering credible and timely information that would assist in sustaining peace across the state.
