The Yobe State Government has expressed concern over the low turnout of candidates for the ongoing Nigerian Army recruitment screening exercise in the state.
The Chairman of the Yobe State Recruitment Committee, Brigadier General Dahiru Abdul-Salam (Rtd), disclosed this after inspecting the Nigerian Army 90 Regular Recruit Intake screening exercise at the 241 Recce Model Battalion in Nguru, Yobe State.
Abdul-Salam, who also serves as the Special Adviser to Governor Mai Mala Buni on Security Matters, revealed that out of 2,431 candidates shortlisted from Yobe State, only 1,605 had reported for documentation as of the time of the exercise.
He described the shortfall of over 800 candidates as worrisome, warning that it could negatively affect the state’s chances of filling its allocated quota in the Nigerian Army.
According to him, many qualified candidates may be missing the opportunity due to poor dissemination of information, misconceptions about the recruitment process, or lack of commitment.
“Many qualified candidates might be missing the opportunity due to poor information flow, misconceptions, or lack of commitment to the process,” he said.
He stressed the need for increased awareness and sensitisation of youths across the state on the importance of participating in the Army recruitment exercise.
The screening exercise is expected to end on December 17, 2025.
