Army, Taraba Govt Strengthen Alliance Against Terrorism

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has declared a strong and unbreakable alliance between the Nigerian Army and the Taraba State Government in a renewed offensive against terrorism and other security threats.

Shaibu made this known on Tuesday while receiving the Executive Governor of Taraba State, Col. Agbu Kefas (rtd), alongside federal lawmakers and members of the Executive Council of the International Institute for African Ispense Security and Governance, during a courtesy visit to the Army Headquarters in Abuja.

The army chief reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to its constitutional role of supporting civil authorities in maintaining peace and security, describing Taraba State as strategically important due to its terrain and security dynamics.

He commended Gov. Kefas for his decisive leadership and effective coordination with security agencies, noting that the state government’s support, including the donation of land and provision of operational equipment, had significantly enhanced military operations in the state.

Shaibu stressed that sustainable peace could only be achieved through strong civil-military collaboration and appealed for continued partnership, particularly in providing stable electricity to the 20 Model Battalion in Sarti and the 93 Battalion to boost operational efficiency and troop welfare.

He also urged residents of Taraba State to support security operations by providing timely and credible intelligence, noting that community cooperation remained critical to defeating terrorism and criminality.

Responding, Gov. Kefas described the visit as a demonstration of Taraba State’s solidarity with the Nigerian Army, congratulating Shaibu on his appointment as COAS.

The governor praised the professionalism and sacrifices of army personnel, saying their sustained presence had led to visible improvements in the state’s security situation.

He further reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the Nigerian Army, including assistance with accommodation for deployed troops, as both parties pledged to maintain a united front against insecurity.
