Bauchi ASUU Urges Tinubu To Fulfil Campaign Promise On Education

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, at Sa’adu Zungur University, Gadau, SAZUG, in Bauchi State have urged Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to fulfil his campaign promise of providing a robust, effective, efficient education system for Nigerians.

The Chairperson of the Union in SAZUG, Awwal Hussain, made the appeal during a press conference held at the Yuli Campus in Bauchi at the weekend.

Hussain said there was a need for immediate action by the federal and state governments to prevent the collapse of the tertiary education sector, warning that ASUU is preparing for another round of strike action.

“The contending issues include the Federal Government’s refusal to sign and implement the re-negotiated FGN/ASUU Agreement, non-payment of earned academic allowances, and arrears of promotion,” Nuhu stated.

He also highlighted other concerns such as “the illegal dissolution of governing councils in federal and some state universities and the release of only three and a half months of withheld salaries for work already done.”

Comrade Awwal Hussain asserted, “All these issues can be resolved immediately if the President, as the Commander-in-Chief, engages directly with our Union’s leadership.”

He further urged the university administration, governing council, and state government to address the pressing issues promptly to maintain industrial harmony.

“Despite these challenges, our commitment to the growth and prosperity of Sa’adu Zungur University remains unwavering, and we trust that our concerns will receive the required attention,” he added.
