The Bauchi State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Jamila Muhammad Dahiru, has raised concerns regarding the proliferation of unregistered private schools in the state, emphasizing the need to address this issue promptly.
With only 1,102 registered schools in the state, Dr. Dahiru highlighted the urgency of regulating the educational sector. She announced that private schools must now operate at least five kilometers apart to enhance service delivery efficiency.
These directives were issued during a meeting with private school owners at Government Comprehensive Day Secondary School, Bauchi, where Dr. Dahiru stressed the importance of collaboration between private schools and the education ministry to achieve educational goals.
While recognizing the valuable role private schools play in the educational system, she urged proprietors to meet their financial obligations promptly and comply with the established rules and regulations governing their operations.
In response, proprietors like Hajiya Binta Faruq of Blue Bird Elementary School and Mr. Losa Augustine Abiodun of Havard International School, Bauchi, highlighted challenges such as non-payment of school fees and the lack of coordination with the government on academic calendars, underscoring the need for improved communication and support in the sector.
