Bauchi Man Allegedly Kills Mother With Pestle

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old man, Safiyanu Dalhatu, for allegedly killing his mother, Salma Abdullahi, with a pestle in the Abujan Kwata area of Bauchi.

Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmad Wakili, confirmed the incident in a statement on Tuesday, revealing that members of the Peace and Security Committee in the area reported the case to the A’ Divisional Police Headquarters on February 24, 2025.

“Safiyanu Dalhatu is accused of attacking Salma Abdullahi with a heavy pestle, resulting in fractures to both of her hands as well as other bodily injuries,” Wakili stated.

Following the report, the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Abdullahi Muazu, led a team of detectives to the scene, where they found the victim critically injured. She was immediately rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) in Bauchi for medical attention but was later confirmed dead by medical personnel.

The police have since launched an investigation into the case, recovering the pestle used in the attack as evidence.

“Initial investigations suggest that the altercation between the suspect and his biological mother led to the assault,” the statement added.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Musa Muhammad, has directed the Criminal Investigation Department to handle the case, assuring that the suspect will face prosecution upon the completion of the investigation.
