The Bauchi State Police Command says it has rescued two kidnapped victims in a joint operation that led to the killing of a suspected bandit and recovery of an AK-47 rifle.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, stated this in a statement issued on Saturday in Bauchi.
He said the operation followed an attack by gunmen on Kataraje village, near Kalgo and Alkaleri, in the Gwana District of Yankari Game Reserve, in the early hours of Friday.
Wakil said the attack occurred at about 2:30 a.m., during which two residents – 60-year-old Alhaji Ango Mallam Idi and 35-year-old Musa Alhaji Shumo – were abducted, while two others, identified as 50-year-old Rabiu Sale and 45-year-old Sale Akko, sustained injuries.
He explained that the command received a distress call from residents of Yalo and Mansur communities at about 6 a.m. on Saturday and immediately mobilised a joint operations team to the scene.
“The injured persons were given medical attention while operatives tracked the suspects. A gun duel ensued, during which one bandit was neutralised. An AK-47 rifle was recovered from the scene.
“The hostages were rescued unhurt and reunited with their families,” Wakil said.
He assured that the police would sustain collaborative operations with other security agencies to tackle criminal activities in the state.
