Bauchi Polytechnic Students Protest Armed Robbery Attacks

Students of the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi, on Tuesday staged a protest over repeated armed robbery attacks on their on-campus hostels, which left at least 10 students injured.

The latest incident occurred around 2 a.m., when more than 50 armed men reportedly invaded the hostels, attacking students with machetes and other weapons.

Eyewitnesses said the robbers also brandished firearms and assaulted those who resisted, carting away valuables.

In response, students blocked the Bauchi–Tafawa Balewa Federal Highway in a peaceful demonstration, preventing staff and lecturers from accessing the institution.

The protesters called on the school’s management to improve security, lamenting that despite the presence of internal security personnel, the campus remained vulnerable to outsiders.

They also decried the poor living conditions in the hostels, citing the absence of electricity at night, which they said left the premises in total darkness and exposed them to attacks.

The institution’s management was yet to issue an official statement as at the time of filing this report.
