Sen. Mohammed Tahir Monguno (APC-Borno North) has organised a five-day career development training for 300 security personnel as part of efforts to complement the fight against Boko Haram insurgency in Borno.
The training, which held from April 8 to 12 in collaboration with the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR), also featured the disbursement of N100,000 each to the participants, amounting to N30 million.
Monguno, who is the Chief Whip of the Senate and Vice Chairman, Senate Committee on Appropriation, said the programme was designed to enhance the capacity of local security personnel and foster synergy among stakeholders.
He said the gesture was also aimed at supporting the ongoing security initiatives of Gov. Babagana Zulum of Borno.

He described security as the primary responsibility of government, adding that “any government that fails to protect lives and property has no business staying in office.”
The senator expressed appreciation to the Nigerian military and other security agencies for their sacrifices and resilience in the fight against insurgency.
“Our economy has suffered, infrastructure destroyed, and our people displaced. We remain eternally grateful to our gallant forces, and we pray for the repose of the souls of our fallen heroes,” he said.
Monguno also lauded Zulum’s commitment to the resettlement of displaced communities and restoring livelihoods.
In his remarks, the representative of the Director-General of IPCR, Mr Emmanuel Baba, commended the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful.
“Sen. Monguno has demonstrated a proactive approach to tackling insecurity by building the capacity of local security actors. This training will certainly promote peace and stability in the
