At least two people were killed and four others injured following a bomb explosion on Sunday evening in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State.
Community sources told our correspondent that the incident occurred when six boys, unaware of the danger, picked up explosive devices mistaking them for metal scraps.
The boys were reportedly heading towards Ajari village in Konduga when the device exploded.
“Two people lost their lives instantly while four others are receiving treatment at the General Hospital, Konduga,” a community source said.
In a separate development, the Borno Police Command confirmed the recovery of an unexploded ordnance (UXO) in a farmland in Dikwa Local Government Area.
ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, spokesperson of the command, said the discovery was made after a farmer, Babagana Kachalla, reported a suspicious object on his land.
He explained that the Commissioner of Police, Naziru Abdulmajid, deployed the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team which identified the object as a 2.2-meter-long Cluster Bomb Unit (CBU).
Daso added that no casualties were recorded in the Dikwa incident, but residents in the area were sensitised on safety measures in handling explosive hazards.
