Borno Government Announces Free Cataract Surgery Programme

The Borno State Government has approved the commencement of another round of free cataract surgeries as part of its ongoing efforts to improve public health and restore eyesight for residents affected by the condition.

The initiative was approved by the Executive Governor of Borno State, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, according to a public announcement issued on Monday.

The surgeries, which are open to all patients diagnosed with cataract as well as members of the public with relatives suffering from the disease, are scheduled to hold from Nov. 17 to Nov. 21, 2025.

The programme will take place at the Eye Hospital, Maiduguri, where qualified specialists are expected to attend to beneficiaries at no cost.

The Chief Medical Director of the Hospital Management Board (HMB) Borno State, Prof. Abubakar Ali Kullima, who made the announcement, urged residents to take advantage of the opportunity and present themselves for immediate evaluation and treatment.

He said the free surgical exercise aligns with the state government’s commitment to expanding access to quality healthcare and preventing avoidable blindness among citizens.

Kullima assured that adequate arrangements have been made to manage the expected turnout and ensure smooth service delivery throughout the five-day programme.
