Borno Govt Cautions Youth on Social Media Misuse, Calls for Order

The Borno State Government has expressed concern over the unruly behavior and disorderly conduct of some youths who have used social media to make threats and statements deemed contrary to the state’s culture and way of life.

In a statement issued by the Directorate of Culture, Ministry of Information and Internal Security on thursdat, the government condemned social media postings showing some youths brandishing knives, insulting government officials, and challenging lawful policies. The government described such actions as unacceptable and urged youths to uphold order and discipline in line with the state’s cherished traditions.

“Borno State prides itself as the ‘Home of Peace,’ where our diverse communities, divided into eight Emirates, coexist in harmony, fairness, and tolerance. It is imperative that our youth maintain an orderly conduct consistent with our age-hallowed traditions and values,” the statement read.

The government reaffirmed its commitment to upholding constitutional rights, including freedom of expression, free speech, and peaceful assembly. However, it warned that it would not tolerate actions that breach law and order or violate the constitution.

“The doors of the government are always open for legitimate public complaints and constructive engagement. Anyone who wishes to express concerns should do so within the ambits of the law.

Citizens must refrain from spreading fake news, making inflammatory statements, or engaging in hateful conduct. Violators of the law will face its full wrath,” the statement added.
