The Borno State Ministry of Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation has initiated the fifth and final phase of a comprehensive training program for 1106 teachers aimed at improving teaching and learning standards across the state.
The flagging-up ceremony took place at the College of Education Waka Biu on Monday.
Hon. Lawan Abba Wakilbe, the Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation, emphasised the government’s commitment to teacher development and improvement in the education sector.
He explained the implementation of a ₦70,000 minimum wage for teachers and the provision of modern facilities for training.
The fifth phase of the training program will focus on 1,106 teachers from seven Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs) in southern Borno.
The trainees will undergo intensive training in modern teaching techniques, pedagogy, literacy, and numeracy.
The state government has invested a significant sum of ₦1.7 billion in this training initiative, which includes monthly stipends of ₦30,000 for each trainee.
Dr. Gambo Saljaba, the Provost of Waka-Biu College, assured participants of quality training and urged them to take advantage of the opportunity to enhance their skills.
The Permanent Secretary of SUBEB also emphasised the importance of the training and urged trainees to remain dedicated.
The Emir of Biu, HRH Alhaji Mustapha Umar Mustapha Aliyu II, commended the state government’s efforts and urged the trainees to utilise the training to improve the quality of education in the state.
Representatives from the NLC and the NUT commended the state government’s efforts in transforming education through the Ministry of Education.
On behalf of the trainees, Mal. Maazu Bello pledged full commitment to the program, assuring that participants would actively engage in the training and transfer the knowledge gained to enhance primary and basic education in the state.

A symbolic cheque worth 242,220,000 million for the training program was presented at the end of the programme.
The flag-off ceremony was attended by education secretaries from all 27 LGEAs and other key stakeholders in the education sector.
This initiative is expected to have a positive impact on the quality of education in Borno State and contribute to the overall development of the region.
